Safeton, Coldeven 26 (Waterday), 585, 11 pm. cont.

After a long rest, the group carefully left their cozy resting room. The group crept out and down the hall into the fountain room, they noted that some of the zombies and ghouls showed signs of being nowed on or even missing strips of flesh, although due to the Shatter spell, this was difficult, this did not deter the group from moving forward.

They explored one of the side rooms that held a number of ghouls, only hours before. It looks to have been a shrine room or a room waiting for further bodies to rest there. Disappointingly, it had very little in it.

The group came to the attention of a lazying wight, the creature and its minions had laid there for centuries, undisturbed, festering in its own corrupted juices. It barely gave the party a warning before combat started. Vifil gained a new, nasty, scar on his neck as one of the creatures nearly killed him with a natural 20. he lucked out and only gained the nasty scar. Pharum gained some serious internal bleeding and harsh scar from a natural 20 that opened up her right side. Her clothes, jacket and armour need mending.

Thabuli realized that the shield the wight was carrying ignored her Acid Spray, and deduced it could be magical. The shield had a device that Vifil, nor the group, had ever seen before.

They explored the tomb room and found:

  • moonstone (50 gp),
  • quartz (50 gp),
  • sardonyx (50 gp),
  • 3 x zircon (50 gp),
  • Steel shield with a centre boss (+1)

After such ghastly wounds, the group chose to lock the doors on the way out, and look for healing and a night’s full rest. They also found the crypt oppressive, distasteful and cloying. With so many undead, in the same place for so long, the environment had changed, become unpleasant to those that live. With a good Arcana roll, the group pieced together that the place had been so contaminated by Negative Energy that they were starting to feel it. The room was colder, the air unpleasant to taste, and more. 

Vifil deduced that the Water Weird may have actually improved the ecology of the room, its nature may have actually clarified the room, to a limited degree. Now that the creature was dead, nothing was holding back the Negative Energy.
